To love the man I never knew —
Most painful thing I’ve ever done.
Now your life on Earth is through,
My love for you has just begun.

The fond affection felt before
Was a subconscious kind of love.
My love for Kermit (the god of arms)
Forgot whose arm enlivened the amphibian glove.

Your alter ego was green.
Your alter ego was Kermit’s life.
For all your friends who held you close,
My envy green does hold you tight!

But I find I hold a nothingness,
An empty space you used to fill.
I miss the man I never knew,
And I suppose I always will.
