Dent papyrus with your ink
The paper speaks before I blink
And feelings felt on human shores
Are floating on a sea of white

Pound papyrus with your hammer
A speaking tongue . . . I often stammer
But you speak clearly with your poundings
Precious ink pours forth my houndings
Of death and wit and death some more
Ravens tapping at my chamber door

But death sometimes wins over a raven
A bullet takes his speech from flight
His death freeing me from this room
I escape to see the morning light

The sunrise fills my heart with romance
Love and joy
Dent papyrus with my wit
But soon again the sun is setting
The star I often call a twit
For death has been my life in musing
So often light is hidden by a devil
But when courage comes
I steal the light
By reaching through a shadow
