~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sitting on our thrones
Before the powerful sea
We think we get our strength
From what we hold before us
But it's all a fantasy
Each throne is made so grand
Carved by a wicked hand
The hand of one who would be King
And of himself would sing
But our thrones are made of sand
And soon we're washed into the powerful sea
As the tide comes in
And as we drown
Of ourselves we sing
*
Lying in our graves
Beneath the powerful sea
We think we gained our deaths
From what we hold above us
But it's all a fantasy
Each died at his own hand
A dabbler with sand
But sand and water just don't mix
The water won
The fool is King of His Own Demise
Such a foolish prize
TAD'S NOTE:
This poem is "For Bill English, Jr." because, when I first read it to him, he was amazed since he had previously had a dream about chairs made of sand.
