Before his crucifixion, Jesus prayed, "Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me . . ." (Luke 22:42 -- KJV) followed by, ". . . nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." Our Saviour wanted something he couldn't have, and that was not a sin, because it was tempered with acceptance of what he did have. It just hit me that this is a lesson for all of us. Without wanting things, there can be no hope for the future; but being content with the way things are (even though we want something else) -- this is the paradoxical key to contentment, without which, the door will never unlock.

Somehow, this was inspired while waiting for my laundry load to dry. Now, it's time to unload the machine.

I may look normal to you, but I am disabled. I have an invisible disability, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), invisible that is, unless you're paying close attention to things like my obsessive checking of the table, chairs, and under them, when I leave a restaurant, to make sure I've not left anything behind. The cannister of moist towelettes that accompanies me everywhere is probably a dead giveaway too.

I used to also be tormented a lot by obsessive thoughts repeating themselves over and over again, however, I've come up with a technique that "usually" helps me conquer them. You know the floaters that you notice every once in a while, in the middle of your visual field, just sort of floating around without a care in the world, not realizing those little debris flotsam are annoying the heck out of you? Well, I keep my obsessive mental ramblings from getting me down by saying, "It's just MENTAL FLOTSAM," and going about my day. It really helps me, and I hope it helps you too, whether or not you have OCD. Next time you can't get that song out of your head, just remind yourself that, like those floaters on your eye, that song obstructing your other thoughts is "just mental flotsam." Then, with the attitude adjustment, the song may leave you alone, because you've refused to let it torture you. It's like James 4:7 (KJV) says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (http://bible.cc/james/4-7.htm)

Having watched William Shatner's "THE CAPTAINS," earlier in the day, probably explains the very weird dream I had, later on, about being on a road trip with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. At first, I thought Shatner was a bad driver, until Nimoy took the wheel, turning it into one of those dreams in which I almost died. And at the rest stop restaurant, Nimoy ran his finger and thumb along my butter knife, and then complained that it made a mess of his fingers. I said to him, "Leonard, you're a very weird man, but it's probably the fact that you're such a weird man that makes you such a phenomenal actor." MY HERO:
My dad, The Rev. David R. Ketchen, who drove almost a thousand miles to help me make it through my last week of classes during an academically dismal semester in college.

Dad is a retired Presbyterian pastor. Over the years, during Monarch Butterfly season, Dad has often done a children's story that spanned over a few weeks in Sunday morning services. The kids (and adults) got to see the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly over that period. This is a photo I took of one of the butterflies in my parents' condo, before Dad set her free. I hate filling out forms that force me to pick the U.S. state where I live and the U.S. formatted postal code, which are both impossible, since I do not live in the U.S. There are also around 6 billion other people who do not live in the U.S. Sometimes I wish America would get over itself and realize there is a world outside its borders.

It’s like the stupid U.S. Department of Education which has a form I can fill out to have my U.S. student loan cancelled due to my PERMANENT AND TOTAL DISABILITY. However, even though my schooling was in the U.S., I am now happily settled in my home country of Canada. And, I “cannot” submit the loan cancellation for PERMANENT AND TOTAL DISABILITY, because, even though I am permanently and totally disabled by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, the form has to be signed by a doctor in one of the 50 United States. Damn it! I’m in Canada! Do you really expect ALL students who study in the U.S. to be confined to the U.S. for the rest of their lives, in order to be considered Disabled? Stupid, irritating, hateful bureaucracy! I also really have no clue as to why they think I’ll ever be able to repay my loan. I’ve gone through TWO bankruptcies, one in the U.S., and a later one in Canada. The bankruptcies cancelled ALL my debts EXCEPT for the U.S. Department of Education student loan because the U.S. federal government will forgive ALL my debts EXCEPT the ones to them.

Rapunzel was a mannequin head I used to own from a mail-order photography course I dabbled in. I chose to name her Rapunzel as an ironic joke, since she had no hair. The background behind her was the base of my electronic typewriter standing on end. I liked the futuristic look it gave the picture.

Unitarian Universalist Nudist Christian Disillsioned With Disorganized Religion.

Mom was Baptist, but married a Presbyterian pastor, so my two brothers and I grew up Presbyterian. I later went to a Christian Reformed church, but now I just self-label myself Nudist Christian and am no longer involved in any particular denomination. Though I don't "go to church" anymore, I really enjoy the preaching of Charles Price at LivingTruth.ca. As for my own Christian views, you'll find plenty of them on my JTK.CA, NudeCreations.com, NudistPoet.com, and TadCreations.com websites. And if I ever contradict myself, you need to understand that my postings are things I've created throughout my life, and they are not in chronological order. Like any other human, my views have changed over time, and will continue to change, as long as I breathe.

Choirs are fun. I've sung solos and been in choirs from my early 10's to my late 30's. I'm 43 and a hermit now (2011-06-08). Besides going to my parents' place for supper most nights, I live happily alone in my apartment. I'm alone, but not lonely. facebook.com/JTK.CA has become my social life.

I'm on Disability pensions for my Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). My OCD kept killing my jobs, so I decided to stop torturing myself and get the help I needed. I'm much happier now that I've retired from the work world. I also like living alone, because, I don't have to explain all my weird OCD rituals to anyone. Once in a while, I get frustrated with the rituals. But, for the most part, I'm at peace with my OCD and have fun with my mental illness, or is it mental illnesses (plural)? Like my grandfather used to say, "Might as well laugh as cry." Basically, when I'm home alone, I'm a complete loon, and I love it! Mirrors were made for making faces in.

Textbook cases are only you and I written down. I don't fit a label, even ones I've given myself. Reality is too complicated. I gave myself the label NudistPoet years ago, but now I'm more of a nude model, having become disillusioned with nudism, similar to my disillusionment with organized Christianity. Christians have a problem with my nudism, and nudists have a problem with my boner. I am a single, celibate, bisexually curious man, but looking for heterosexual marriage in my future. I'm a pro-life Christian nudist, who has always been and still is anti-abortion. Even though, I'm anti-abortion, I don't want kids. But, unlike some others, I've chosen celibacy over having my unborn children murdered. Contrarily to being anti-abortion, I used to believe in the death penalty for murderers, until, I saw all the convicted murderers being cleared by DNA evidence. Now, I'm anti-death penalty. It's called living in the world because we're all ALL OVER THE MAP.

A perfect example of how the concept of "Hate Speach" only goes one way. It's fine for a liberal to say caustically slanderous things against conservatives. Only conservatives are able to commit "Hate Speach" because "Hate Speach" really just means someone has the audacity to be a free thinker and disagree with a liberal agenda.

Yes, I'm a naked exhibitionist, but I grew up conservative. Even though I'm liberal now on a lot of issues, I am amazed at the venom that comes out of so many liberals' mouths toward conservatives. I thought liberals were supposed to be against "Hate Speach."

I used to live in Duanesburg, New York, a beautiful countryside neighbourhood, surrounded by hilly terrain which is magnificent in autumn. Duanesburg is not far from Schenectady and Albany. Even if you don't see the name on your map, Duanesburg is easy to find. Downtown Duanesburg "is" the intersection of Routes 7 and 20. You can't miss Duanesburg's "one" set of stop lights.

Anyway, I had a friend in Duanesburg who was a skydiver...yes, a skydiver. Skydiving is big in Duanesburg. In the warmer months, I would often see people in parachutes plummeting toward earth. The skydiving club headquartered itself at Duanesburg's little airport. My skydiver friend told me once about Duanesburg's close encounters with Harrison Ford. She wished she had been there, at his visits, to meet him; but it's still a great story.

Besides being a superstar actor, Harrison Ford is also a pilot, and, as a pilot, he was at Duanesburg's small airport. He ate at a restaurant in Duanesburg called "Jonathan's Pizza"--no relation to me, but still a nice name. Anyway, a year later he arrived back at the Duanesburg Airport and ate, once again, at Jonathan's Pizza. When he went into the restaurant, he noticed something very strange. They had mounted his plate and eating utensils from his last visit onto their wall. His response was to ask if there were anywhere else in town that he could eat.

JTK.CA stands for JONATHAN TAD KETCHEN Creative Adventurer (my identity), but even more important than me, I'm happy to let JTK.CA stand for JESUS THE KING Conquers All. He is my Creator, and I am only a Creative Adventurer because He is the one who made me.

This is a night-time long exposure, taken of residential lighting on the horizon, moving the camera side to side, moving it up and down, plus a little bit of random spinning. Then I turned the finished photo 90 degrees. Usually, you see this kind of time exposure with car lights. However, this one is mostly house lights and, maybe some street lights, on the horizon. Just call me a whirling dervish! ;-) Twist and shout! When I saw the image on my digital camera's view screen, the cross jumped right out at me, and I couldn't wait to get home to Photoshop the image! Weeee!

"SIMPLE SOLUTION"

I'm a single male. It isn't easy. Basically, I'm a virgin, except for some experimental homosexual touching with other boys my age in my early teens. I've always wanted to heterosexually marry a woman, but I've gotten the "Let's just be friends" line so many times that I'm becoming more content with singlehood. The only problem is, for religious and personal reasons, I'm celibate till marriage. I don't want kids, so, at least, the celibacy has helped. Christianity today has trouble with honesty, and honestly I'm a single Christian who copes with my sexual needs by masturbating to pornography. That's my spiritual battlefield. How's that for honesty? Did you even realize that single Christians still have sexual needs? To deny it is sin, because God is the God of Truth.

I don't want to be sexually intimate with someone without emotional intimacy, simply because I know my emotional limits. Being denied the prospect of emotional intimacy with someone is painful enough; I know from experience, many times over. Therefore, I'd rather not experience being denied sexual intimacy after already having had it with someone. I'll wait till marriage. I once told a girl I didn't even believe in French kissing until marriage. She responded, "Wow! You're going to be a nymphomaniac!" I said, "You bet ya' honey!" If someone wants to be physically sexual with me, she has a simple solution. She can ask me to marry her. And I'm one who believes in short engagements, preferably a day or so, because if I agree to her proposal, I'm taking her to the justice of the peace right away, before she has a chance to change her mind.

And if I don't accept her marriage proposal, maybe it's just my turn to say, "Let's just be friends." Revenge is sweet ;-)

"THE NAME OF THE GAME"

One of the reasons I sign my art as JTK.CA is that it doubles as my name and my web address, and I was able to luck out on snagging ownership of the super-short domain name. The other reason I sign my work as JTK.CA is that my whole life, people have had trouble spelling Jonathan Tad Ketchen correctly.

Jonathan gets spelled erroneously as Johnathan or Jonathon. I hate Johnathan because I'm afraid people think it's an extension of John, which it is not. Jonathon bugs me because I am not a high school fund-raising race; I am not a Jon-a-thon. The correct spelling of my first name is Jonathan, the Biblical spelling, but who reads the Bible anymore? I love my name Jonathan, but I don't like it shortened to Jon because I'm afraid people will think it's John. And then there was one of those really weird days when one of my bosses misspelled my name as JONATHEN. The other misspellings are common, but I've never seen that one before or since; that one didn't bug me so much, as it made me laugh.

My middle name is Tad. I introduce myself this way, "My name is Tad (as in Tadpole)," which avoids the inevitable response of, "Hello Ted," or, "Hello Tod."

My last name is Ketchen. A few generations ago it was Kitchen, which would make my life a lot simpler. "Kitchen. It's spelled like Kitchen." But alas, my name is not Kitchen, it's Ketchen, which inevitably gets mangled into Ketchum. Dad used to pastor a church in upstate New York, and after 9 years of being there, one of the elders was still calling him Pastor Ketchum. Our last name is Ketchen, thank you very much.

I love my name Jonathan, because Dad's name is David. Jonathan and David were best friends in the Bible.

I didn't used to like my middle name Tad. I thought people would think of it as silly. However, right before enrolling at Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, Georgia, U.S.A., I decided to take my middle name Tad as an honour because Dad named me Tad after his Japanese best friend Tadataka, whom he knew from their days in seminary. When going to Covenant, I did not decide to go by Tad. I just decided I was going to go from signing Jonathan T Ketchen to signing Jonathan Tad Ketchen. One of my roommates at Covenant had different ideas though. He started calling me Tad-Man and Tadster. The name spread across campus like wildfire, and I've been Tad ever since. My last name Ketchen actually was Kitchen a few generations ago, since my ancestors were kitchen workers in a Scottish Lord's castle. I guess that explains why I've had four different food service-related jobs.

Anyway, this whole essay on
Jonathan Tad Ketchen
was inspired by a letter I just got in the mail. Yes, Canada Post's strike is over.

Like I've over-explained above, I have a serious neurosis when it comes to having my name misspelled. However, this is the first time, I've ever been mistaken for TWO people. I just got a letter addressed to
Jonathan & Tad Ketchen.
Note the ampersand (&).

I groomed by beard to look good. Next, the plan was to take a shower before going to my cousin's 40th wedding anniversary party, but the shower was squealing. So I adjusted my plans, and went to the party, with the intent of doing laundry and taking a bath when I got home. The party was great. I shot 126 pictures and shot one movie of an inch-worm inching along for ten minutes. I got back home, did the laundry, cleaned the bathroom, and took a bath. What came over me?! I'm uber-proud of myself! For once, I used my OCD to my advantage. Activities of daily living are usually really difficult for me, with my OCD. But over the past day, I've kicked OCD's ass! :-) ♥ :-) ♥ I'LL PROBABLY BE A ZOMBIE TOMORROW. ;-P

in northwest Indiana. My major was ART (with a GRAPHIC DESIGN concentration).
Liquorice allsorts are popular in my native Canada, so this is a drawing of me as a licorice allsort.

I've eaten these years away,
And it all can be seen today.

I feel like a cookie,
All crunched and digested.
I feel like a theory

I'm lost in a chocolate sea;
Glued to vanilla cream;
Exhausted from ecstasy.
Here I lie
On a tray.

In mid-October 2010, I aimed my camera at a bright star near Earth's moon. I zoomed in on the star which turned out to be a planet. I believe the pupil of this eye in the sky is actually one of Mars's moons transiting in front of Mars. Either that, or it's the Eye of God Nebula (which really does exist). From other photos I took though, I think I saw a full red Mars earlier, and then the Martian moon beginning its transit, followed by this image with the Martian moon directly in front of Mars. Or perhaps the different zoom levels of my camera caused the illusion of the moon moving. I know that light can bend itself over the vast reaches of space, causing optical illusions. Whatever. I'm obviously a beginner when it comes to astronomy.
