"WALK AROUND THE BLOCK TO GET NEXT DOOR" :::: © JTK.CA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have always done things the most creative and complicated way. Mom has told me that I walk around the block to get next door. It's very true, I do. But, as a result, my walks next door are much richer experiences than those of "normal" people.
In grade 6, I was in a dance contest. I danced to KC and the Sunshine Band's "Shake, shake, shake. Shake, shake, shake. Shake your booty. Shake your booty." Unfortunately, I was a naive idiot, kicking out and shaking my foot, in my dance. I thought I was brilliant!
"FROM WHAT WE HOLD BEFORE US" (For Bill English, Jr.)
© JTK.CA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sitting on our thrones
Before the powerful sea
We think we get our strength
From what we hold before us
But it's all a fantasy
Each throne is made so grand
Carved by a wicked hand
The hand of one who would be King
And of himself would sing
But our thrones are made of sand
And soon we're washed into the powerful sea
As the tide comes in
And as we drown
Of ourselves we sing
*
Lying in our graves
Beneath the powerful sea
We think we gained our deaths
From what we hold above us
But it's all a fantasy
Each died at his own hand
A dabbler with sand
But sand and water just don't mix
The water won
The fool is King of His Own Demise
Such a foolish prize

"GOODNESS GRACIOUS, GREAT DANE!" ::::: © JTK.CA
My parents and I used to clean houses for a living, and one of our clients had a Great Dane puppy. Every two weeks we would clean the man's house, and every time it was like the guy had gotten a new dog. We literally could see the dog growing and the giant dog cage appearing to get smaller and smaller. When your puppy is a Great Dane, you definitely have to take future growth into account ;-)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow never knows
What today may bring.
Today is in the past,
Unremembered by the now of the future.
The race is to the finish,
Not to the starting line.
Tomorrow is the end beginning future things.
Today began the race of time.
At the vertex of the clock (unseen by human eyes),
Yesterday, Tomorrow, Today are three in one,
Two of three always in disguise, hidden from our eyes.
One stands clearly
Until the next Yesterday-Tomorrow-Today,
Backward/forward--whichever way.
Hearing a news story about activists being concerned about abortions that were UNSAFE for women, I responded with "All Abortions are UNSAFE for Babies." Mom loved that line. Maybe I'll turn it into my next T-shirt design at
TAD'S NOTE:
From 1973 to 1982, age 5 to age 14, I lived on
Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada; for
the first three years, in Sydney; and then six
years in nearby Coxheath, where I learned the
wonderful meaning of "neighbourhood."
Cape Breton has a majestic landscape, and is
steeped in history. Alexander Graham Bell lived
in Baddeck, where you will find the Alexander
Graham Bell Museum. Ingonish Beach, along the
Cabot Trail, is the most beautiful beach I’ve
ever been too. Step back in time at Fortress of
Louisburg National Historic Park. Steeped in history,
and steeped in water, Cape Breton is surrounded by the
Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Being
surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation may be why
I look back on those years as formative ones in my
spiritual walk with God.
"OTTAWA, DO NOT KILL THE PENNY!" ::::: © JTK.CA
Ottawa getting rid of the penny will just replace the unwanted proliferation of pennies with an unwanted proliferation of nickels. Whatever the lowest denomination is will become overabundant. If we were to get rid of the penny, I'm sure the retailers "would" round prices upward. I even noticed a retailer rounding a price upward to the nearest penny, instead of downward, which it should have done for the less than half-cent amount. Only 0.5 cents and higher should be rounded up and below 0.5 cents should be rounded down. Errors in this regard would be a lot more expensive, over time, with the nickel. Stick with the penny!
Did I just enter the big leagues? :-)
Wow! One of my readers just commented, putting my short story http://bit.ly/NakedMars writing skills on the same level as Robert A. Heinlein.
What a sweet, beautiful story. Even Heinlein couldn't have written it any better!
"OPHELIA CORDELIA DELILAH" ::::: © JTK.CA
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder controls every aspect of my life. I have all kinds of weird little rituals, so one thing I like about being single, is my OCD and I don't have to worry about explaining ourselves to someone else. I love people and being with people, but for the most part, I like being alone, free from the expectations of others, free to just be me, no questions asked.
In a way, OCD and I are married. We are inseparable and, for the most part, at peace with each other. We get on each other's nerves from time to time, but we make up quickly. OCD (or Ophelia Cordelia Delilah as I sometimes call her) were made for each other. I wouldn't be the creative person I am without her, and she would have nothing to do and no one to inspire without me. She gives me suggestions all the time. I often think they're brilliant and go with them. But, sometimes, I just ignore her. Still, Ophelia Cordelia Delilah usually gets her way. I'm at peace with that.
