What creator?
ASTRID:
"...that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
LUCID:
Those rights must be approved by the Legislature.
ASTRID:
Lucid, you got same-sex marriage legalized. Now you want to legalize group marriage?
LUCID:
Come on Astrid, it's what people want!
ASTRID:
Then I propose we throw out all our laws and replace them with an "I Wanted To" law. Whenever the police are about to arrest someone, the accused can be set free by saying the phrase, "I wanted to."
LUCID:
Now you're being ridiculous!
ASTRID:
I'm being ridiculous? Can't you see the permission slippery slope you're on? What's next? Legalized incest? Bestiality? You could even go beyond group marriage and change the definition of marriage to "a legal or religious union between two or more organisms."
LUCID:
Astrid, you're a genius!
ASTRID:
I was afraid you'd say that.

| "THE TONGUE FAMILY AT THE BEACH" ::: © JTK.CA These were three totally separate, independent pen and ink drawings from my sketchbook. I scanned and combined them in Abobe Photoshop (http://www.adobe.com) as part of my senior solo art exhibit at Valparaiso University (http://www.valpo.edu), in 1995. I blew up the image to gigantic proportions. The finished product hung in the gallery at about 5 feet, 10 inches wide and about 4 feet high. It took 4 hours to print it out, tiled onto 54 sheets of paper. It took me another 12 hours to piece it together for my show on three giant sheets of foam core. |

To a few of my friends:
I'd like you to know
Of a crazy little fantasy
I'm about to expose.
When you play some music on your stereo,
Some music that I also happen to own;
Together, hundreds of miles away;
Together we hear the same music play.
We're simultaneous friends.
It's my only connection to you
Apart from the telephone,
The money-hungry wires of desires.
Suzanne Vega, The Cure, and Sinéad O'Connor keep us together,
At least in my crazy little fantasy.
I'm reading a book
You also happen to own--
Brian Patten's "Storm damage."
Together again,
Simultaneous friends.
Crazy little fantasy--
Similitudes are simultaneous
Because the miles still exist
And I need some connection to my distant friends.

You ask me to name my favourite song.
I ask you to say where we went wrong.
My favourite song is Suzanne Vega's "The Queen and the Soldier."
You answer me,
"We went wrong in another song we shared,
One that made you hope I cared,
But my friend, I know this cannot be."
You ask me to play a different tune.
I answer you, "It's much too soon."
I ask you for a shred of hope.
You say, "That would mean your hope's in shreds."
Well, you've conquered me.
I don't know what I want,
My hope's in shreds,
And all my dreams are dead.
But I love you still.
And I still feel this feeling I'm not sure I feel anymore.
I still wish for things with pessimism,
Still cry these lonely (but not sure they're lonely) tears.

newtons wake
boundaries break
new ideas face the wind
aerodynamic
streaking through uncharted zones
others sit afraid of wind
they'll wait for calm and then they'll start
uncharted zones are scary too
and in the end the winners lose
for their ideas are just as good
but waiters wait longer than they should
and soon each knows he's lost the race
as the wind blows ridicule in his face

Matter is not evil,
Energy's not wrong.
Bad behaviour is the gate
Inspiring each sad song.
